As the year winds down and the world feels like it’s collectively catching its breath, I’ve found myself reflecting on the lessons 2024 has taught me. It’s been a year of growth, change, and undeniable grace—a year that has stretched me in ways I didn’t always ask for, but desperately needed. It’s also been a year of navigating unexpected challenges—moments of loss, transition, and heartbreak that left me questioning myself, but ultimately brought me closer to God. Looking back, I’m realizing just how much these moments of stretching, even the painful ones, have shaped me. I’ll let y’all in on those when I’m able to or ready… just know, I made it through them.
Learning to Let Go
One of the biggest lessons this year has taught me is the power of release. There were situations and relationships I tried to hold onto, even when they were no longer serving me, but God gently (and sometimes not so gently) reminded me that letting go isn’t failure; it’s faith. I’ve learned that holding on to something God has asked you to release only delays your healing and His plans for you. Letting go meant grieving what I thought would be, but it also meant opening my hands to receive His peace. In those moments, I learned to trust His timing more deeply.
This wasn’t just about saying goodbye to what was; it was about trusting that what’s ahead is better—even when I can’t see it yet. Letting go taught me to lean into God’s promises with a new level of surrender.
Vulnerability is Strength
For years, I’ve carried this unspoken belief that vulnerability was a weakness—a way to let people see too much of me, exposing the parts I wasn’t even sure I could handle myself. But 2024 challenged me to let people in. I learned that vulnerability, when shared with the right people, creates space for deeper connection and growth.
There were moments this year where I let my guard down in relationships—both friendships and others—and was met with grace and understanding. Not everyone deserves access to your heart, but some people? Some people are worth the risk. They can handle you at your worst and celebrate you at your best. That realization changed how I approach relationships entirely. It also showed me that healing often happens in community—not isolation.
Gratitude in Hard Seasons
This year also reinforced the importance of gratitude—even when life doesn’t go as planned. I walked through some tough moments in 2024, where it felt easier to focus on what was missing rather than what I had. There were days when grief felt overwhelming, when prayers felt unanswered, and when joy felt distant. But God consistently reminded me to look for the small blessings, the moments of joy tucked into the chaos.
Romans 8:28 tells us that God works all things together for good, and while it’s not always easy to see in the moment, this year I saw glimpses of how He’s been weaving something beautiful even in the midst of my hardest days. Gratitude became a way of holding on to His faithfulness, even when I couldn’t see the full picture. It’s not about ignoring the hard times; it’s about trusting that God is present in them.
Embracing the Journey
If there’s one word that sums up 2024 for me, it’s process. Healing is a process. Growth is a process. Learning to trust God more deeply is a process. And I’m learning to embrace it. There’s beauty in the not-yet, in the space between where you were and where you’re going. This year reminded me that every step, even the messy ones, is worth it.
I’ve come to understand that my struggles don’t define me, but they do refine me. The lessons of 2024 have shown me that God’s grace is always sufficient—especially in the waiting. I’ve also learned that my trauma is not my identity; it’s my testimony. Through everything, I’ve seen God’s hand shaping me for something greater, even when I didn’t understand it.
A Call to Reflect
As we prepare to step into a new year, I want to encourage you to take a moment and reflect on what 2024 has taught you. Maybe it’s been a year of stretching, like mine, or maybe it’s been a year of celebration. Either way, there’s always something to glean from the journey. Write it down, share it with someone you trust, or simply thank God for the lessons—even the hard ones. Remember, your story is still being written, and every chapter matters.
A Closing Prayer
Lord, as we close this year, I thank You for the lessons You’ve brought into my life. Thank You for the moments of growth, the unexpected blessings, and even the challenges that drew me closer to You. Help me to carry these lessons into the new year with grace and intention. Teach me to trust You more, to release what no longer serves me, and to embrace the process of becoming all You’ve created me to be.
Amen.
Grace & Love,
Chels
