Hey friends!
As the Christmas season is upon us, I find myself reflecting on what this time of year truly means. For so many of us, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness—the shopping, the cooking, the planning, the endless to-do lists. And while all of those things are beautiful expressions of celebration, they can sometimes overshadow the deeper meaning of the season.
Christmas, at its heart, is about light breaking into the darkness. It’s about the birth of Christ—God’s greatest gift to us. A gift wrapped not in shiny paper and bows, but in humility and love. The image of a baby in a manger, surrounded by ordinary people who witnessed the extraordinary, reminds me that God’s light often shows up in the most unexpected places.
The Challenge of the Season
Let’s be real, this season isn’t always easy. For some, it’s a reminder of loss. For others, it’s a time when loneliness feels amplified. Even in the joy, there can be moments of grief, longing, or unmet expectations. I’ve felt it too—that ache for what was, or for what could have been. Yet, it’s in these moments that the true essence of Christmas becomes even clearer.
The light of Christ wasn’t just for the joyful moments; it was for the broken ones too. It’s a reminder that even in our hardest seasons, God’s love is with us. John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” That light—His light—is the hope we carry through every high and low.
Finding Joy in the Ordinary
This year, I’ve been intentional about looking for joy in the small, quiet moments. The laughter of my son as he decorates the tree. The smell of cookies baking in the oven. The stillness of a winter morning with a cup of coffee in hand. These moments may seem simple, but they’re sacred. They remind me that God’s blessings are all around us, if we take the time to notice.
A Call to Reflect
As we celebrate this season, take a moment and pause. What does Christmas mean to you? Where have you seen God’s light in your life this year? Maybe it’s in an answered prayer, or maybe it’s in the strength He gave you to keep going. Whatever it is, hold onto it. Let it remind you that the same God who sent His Son to us all those years ago is still working in your life today.
A Closing Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for the gift of Christmas, for the light that came to us in the form of Your Son. In this season, remind us to pause and see the ways You’re moving in our lives. Help us to carry Your light into the world, to reflect Your love in our words and actions. For those who are struggling, be their peace. For those who are celebrating, be their joy. And for all of us, Lord, let us never lose sight of the hope we have in You.
Amen.
Grace & Love,
Chels
