My current state of mind leads to this post. Have you ever had so much going on you feel completely and totally overwhelmed? Well that’s my state of mind and feeling, at this time. I am completely and totally overwhelmed. That’s the TRUE reason why this post is late.
As some of you may know I’m in grad school (working on my Educational Diagnostician certification), I’m a teacher, I’m a wife (not just in name, but I make sure my husband is “taken care” of in EVERY sense of the phrase :-)) and I work in ministry. My life is truly NOT my own. I’ve struggled with creating balance. When I’m at work, I feel as though I can’t get enough done. I don’t like to bring work home, so I TRY to get things done while on the clock. Even when I get home, it still feels as though I’ve left something undone.
In everything, balance is needed, but it’s up to you to be aligned with God and listening to Him, in order to understand how to balance things..Realistically speaking, it’s okay to ask for help. Sometimes we just can’t get everything done.
My normal response to being overwhelmed is to shutdown completely. This time it’s different, I can’t bring myself to shutdown. Just last night I was speaking to my husband about this extraordinary feeling of “too much”. His response to me was very simple “You’ll be okay”…Something as simple as that gave me this crazy peace; re-energized and re-focused me on the true tasks at hand. Why? Because in that moment, I no longer heard my husband’s voice, but God’s voice. I believe God used my husband to convey a message He’s been trying to get me to hear…
Here’s what I got from just that simple phrase: As overwhelming as ministry, work, family, LIFE may be for you…there is nothing like God’s peace to calm you, His love to soothe you, His warmth to surround you. We find ourselves quoting scriptures, but do we really take comfort in what God has told us through the scripture…
- Overwhelm can be defined as a feeling of defeat, but God says “We are more than conquerors” – Romans 8:37
- It’s also defined as being destroyed, but my Bible says “No weapon formed against me shall prosper” – Isaiah 54:17
- Overwhelmed is feeling overcome, but Isaiah says “But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” Isaiah 40:31
- Overwhelm is synonymous with having “a strong emotional affect”, but Psalm urges us: “…when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock”…Psalm 61:2 Who is this Rock? That Rock is Jesus…He is the Rock of our salvation…God’s power is our Rock…
In a previous post, I admonished you to grow your prayer life. It is imperative to grow your relationship, increase your study time, and commit to abundant prayer. Your prayer doesn’t consist of just you talking to God, but actually listening when He responds.
You can make it.
